California’s Agencies to Train 1.3 Million Workers for Energy Efficiency Service Sector by 2020

In a coordinated effort to train millions of workers for California’s clean energy future, the CPUC and Southern California Edison are co-managing a statewide workforce assessment by the Donald Vial Center on Employment in the Green Economy at the University of California, Berkeley. The needs assessment will identify the jobs and skill sets needed to achieve the goals of the California Long Term Energy Efficiency Strategic Plan, Assembly Bill 32 implementation, and other state-mandated clean energy initiatives.

The California Energy Commission and UC Berkeley are also conducting an assessment for the development of a national training center. The Energy Commission’s $75 million Clean Energy Workforce Training Program has already launched the nation’s largest state-sponsored green jobs training program.
